All the subscribers of AKU Internet Services (AKUNET) are required to comply with the following Usage Policy.

The Aga Khan University (AKU) reserves the right to make necessary amendments from time to time in this policy.

ELIGIBILITY :
AKUNET provides Internet access to students, faculty, staff, medical
professionals and academic users.

ILLEGAL USE :
The subscriber will:

  1. Use the Internet account only for lawful purposes. Transmission, distribution or storage of any material in violation of any applicable laws or regulations is prohibited. This includes, without limitation, material protected by copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets or other intellectual property laws used without proper authorization. It also includes material that is obscene, defamatory, constitutes an illegal threat or involves export control laws.

  2. Protect the secrecy of IDs / Passwords assigned to the user at all times and shall ensure that the same is not revealed or disclosed in any manner whatsoever to any person or persons.
  3. Not attempt to gain unauthorized access to any computer system connected to the Internet.
  4. Not persistently send messages without reasonable cause or for causing any threat, harassment, annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety to any person.
  5. Not be entitled to trade on connectivity, resell, hire, transfer, assign or otherwise dispose of the Service or any part there of at any time.
  6. Not post same or similar message to one or more newsgroups (also known as cross-posting, multiple posting, SPAM) Indirect or attempted violation of the Usage Policy, and actual or attempted violations by a third party on behalf of the subscriber shall be considered violation of the Policy by the subscriber. The AKU reserves the right to discontinue or cancel a user's account with reimbursement of any unused charges paid by the user.

PAYMENT TERMS :

  1. The subscriber will have to buy time in advance for the use of Internet services. The user will be prompted for additional payment when the balance has dropped below a pre-determined level as specified by AKU.


  2. The usage charges and any other fees for the services are subject to change from time to time by the AKUNET. Users will be notified for any such changes.

  3. All fees and charges are payable within ten days of the invoice date or such period as may be determined by AKUNET.

  4. AKUNET reserves the right to suspend or terminate the services to the user if he/she is in arrears in payment.

  5. Charges once paid are non-refundable.

DISCLAIMER :

  1. While every care will be taken by AKU in the provision of the services, AKU shall not be liable for any loss caused as a result of any interruption, suspension, termination of the services for any reason whatsoever; or for the contents, accuracy or quality of information available, received or transmitted through the services.
  2. The User shall be solely responsible and AKU shall not be liable in any manner whatsoever for ensuring that in using the services, all applicable laws, rules, regulations and all the terms not limited to those prescribed by Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation and Pakistan Telecommunications Authority for the use of telecommunications systems, services or equipment shall be at all times complied with.
  3. Mail will not be archived, users will be responsible for downloading their own e-mails from AKUNET mail server.

  4. If an account is inactive for 6 months it may be cancelled.
